+34 914 203 767Hotel Villa Real 5* is a benchmark for classical architecture in central Madrid. It was built at the end of the 20th century from a design by Fernando Chueca Goitia and later incorporated into Derby Hotels Collection, establishing itself as a museum hotel where art is part of the stay experience.
Among its highlights are perfectly restored Roman mosaics, Syrian pieces dated between the 2nd and 6th centuries AD, a remarkable collection of Apulian vases and other ancient works displayed throughout the hotel’s common areas.
The experience is completed by Roman sculptures and other archaeological elements that reinforce the hotel’s cultural character and its identity linked to art.
Magna Graecia was the name given to the colonies founded by the Greeks in southern Italy between the 8th and 5th centuries BC. These cities became important centers of trade, art, and culture. Among their most notable creations are Apulian vases, made in the region of Apulia during the 4th and 3rd centuries BC.
These ceramic pieces were decorated with scenes from mythology, daily life, and religious ceremonies, using mainly red-figure technique on a black background. Beyond their beauty, the vases served different purposes, such as serving wine, storing liquids, or accompanying the dead in their tombs.
The collection on display at Hotel Villa Real reveals the artistic and cultural richness of Magna Graecia through these extraordinary works.
Apulian vases derive technically and stylistically from Attic red-figure pottery and feature elaborate painted scenes of funerary, mythological, and everyday life themes.
Hotel Villa Real combines art and elegance in the heart of Madrid, with a collection of archaeological pieces displayed throughout the hotel.
